Dispatch From London # 13
WWIII...................yea right, don't believe the hype. I don't really feel like elaborating right now, but look at where we stand in Iraq, we can't even afford to send our troops, (let me rephrase) find enough rested troops to hold the border down. WWIII, you bet not fall for that BS.

Our foreign policy has us down a path of human and fiscal destruction, while Israel's actions go unchecked by the international community. Israel has a full scale military while the individuals they target run around with small missiles. As these combatants are targeted, more innocent victims meet their death than combatants. International law demands that Israel respond to these attacks proportionately, instead, they collectively punish the civilian population who are not participating in violence by targeting neighborhoods, electricity stations and other vital infrastructure. Neither side has clean hands per se, but if you have a few annoying flies in your house, do you pour gas throughout the house, and toss a lighter to free yourself of the flies, or do you find some other means to handle the situation. Oh s#$%, let me wake up, we are talking bout the real world here.

You missed my entire point because you were offended. War is not fair. You can not expect enemies to respond "in kind". The object of armed conflict is to win and protect your nation. If they don't like the way Israel responds to provocation, they should not provoke them. You are obviously idealistic, which can be admirable, but your post doesn't seem very realistic. War isn't fair.
Hope this post meets you sensitive parameters.
The view I have taken is based upon principles of international law. You do not subject innocent civilians to the type of devastation they are currently experiencing (Lebanese). These individuals are not responsible for any hostilities towards Israel. If you disagree so be it, not everyone agrees with every principle of the law, whether it be national or international. Who is they when you speak? Further, last I checked, Lebanon had not declared war on Israel.
I was not offended, I welcome oposing views, however I will not allow folk who roll up in here to address me any kind of way.
Hezbolah or (Hizbollah depending on your source) is the launcher of the rockets. Lebannon is guilty of doing too little to stop them and even stated today they (Lebannon)my fight with Hezbolah against Israel. (israel.jpost.com). Israel has given up occupied terriroty and is now confined to it's actual borders, which it has the right to defend.
Hezbolah will never be happy until Israel is destroyed. They care nothing about "International law".
I still contend that if rockets were falling in your neighborhood, you would probably be complaining that George Bush was not doing enough to protect you.....yet you disagree that Israel should defend itself to the max.
Let's review, have I stated at any point that Israel should not defend itself. I guess you are an advocate of "collateral damage" or what I like to call, the loss of innocent life. I think you are endorsing such military action.
If my neighborhood was getting hit by rockets, I would want justice. I would want those responsible from pulling the trigger caught. I would not want innocent children and women being killed, or any other individual not responsible for the acts of violence.
And I am not going to get into the issue of occupied territory. I would be typing all night long. Israel and Hezbollah each have dirty hands. The have been fighting for a lifetime. Regardless it does not justify civilian casualties, those which you seem to want to justify.
So with such reasoning, I think it is safe to say that after you have smacked me, you dont mind me smacking the rest of your family, and maybe at some point smacking you back for the initial smack.
Ok. Let's turnit around. Hezbollah has launched over 1,100 rockets into civilian areas af Israel since this fighting began. To use your words "They have subjected innocent civilians to devestation."
At least Israel tries to target the enemy. Hezbollah just fires indescriminately. Surely you don't approve.
And by the way, since you aspire to be an attorney, you need to work on your closing. Your "smacking" analogy didn't make much sense.
I've got to run. I have enjoyed the conversation and will check back for any response.
Hezbollah are militiants, what do militants do? What is their modus operandi? They have no army, they have no planes, they have no tanks, they have no legitimate military infrastructure. They create chaos through non-conventional terroristic type acts. Are they freedom fighters or terrorists? Not for me to answer.
On the other hand, Israel has a military, it has all of the things outlined above. It is incumbent upon them as a nation, as a member of the U.N. to limit civilian causalties when it carries out military operations. Do you disagree with any of the above?
Has Israel targeted civilian infrastructure? Yes. Have civilians died? Yes.
You say my analogy about the smack makes no sense, however, it's quite on point. My question is, did you answer it? I digress
