What Weekend?

Ok, I don't normally listen to Rush Limbaugh but today, I ate lunch in my car today, and sense Al Franken was kind of boring me I switched over to Rush. I had not even unwrapped my sandwich before he said something to piss me off, not only did it piss me off, but I was shocked he even had the balls to utter the shit. Then again, dude can pretty much say whatever he wants, he's one of the untouchables. Anyway, here is the quote, "There are some Duke players who are accused of raping some hoes." Ok, so what? What's the big deal? Well for starters how can you call an alleged rape victim a hoe? (Well besides that Chick who accused Mike Tyson of rape maybe, hey, I did not say that plus that is another story.) Can a victim be a victim until shown otherwise? Plus, the kicker for me is that I don't think he would have say that mess if the alleged victims were wholesome Caucasian girls. The accusers in the Duke case happen to be two black girls, one of which is a student who happens to be dancing to pay for school. But let's be real, he would not have said it if those girls were white, and that is just a fact. I am not even opening the door for discussion on whether or not a rape took place, the fact is, the accusers deserve some respect as to their claim, how you gonna call them hoes before the facts have been ascertained. If my azz or Al Sharpton called the chick who has been missing in Aruba a hoe for leaving with three dudes at the club, I would catch all kind of static, and no I aint called that girl a hoe. So...
I saw previews for a movie called United 93. It's based on one of the hijacked flights on 9/11. It is believed that the passengers on the plane fought the hijackers preventing the plane from being used in an attack of D.C. No doubt the passenger on the plane were heroic, but I just don't think there should be a movie made for the theaters. Why not make it an HBO movie, or one of those TNT movies premiers? I hate to think it, but the movie will likely only incite the worst of us to leave the theater and take out any anger or rage built up while watching the movie on anyone who looks close to an Arab or middle easterner. You know how cautious theaters get when they show a violent black movie, thinking young blacks are gonna break out in gang violence as a result, same thing here. I said it first remember.
Atlanta Bread Company has the bomb blueberry muffin tops. What a great invention, muffin tops with no muffin underneath. The top of the muffin is the best part of a muffin anyway.
Evidence, why is this class so annoying? I have gotta pin it down.
I am glad the weather is warming up cause I am gonna have to wash a whole lot of cars to pay for my summer classes in London.
Damn, I keep forgetting to file taxes. What's N's number or maybe GoldenOne can do it for the free?
Gas....bleep it. Oh, its gonna go higher cause they have to add ethanol to it, and there is a shortage of ethanol, so bend ova...

I wonder what black sellout lawyer will jump in the race between Carlee McCullough and Chancellor Goldin for Chancery Court? Right now they are going heads up. I think the powers that be are looking for a willing black candidate to take some of her potential votes. Should one jump in would be f'd up. I am rolling with Carlee, she is hungry and deserves the opportunity to serve. If you don't know what the heck I am talking about click on the link on the side to see what she is about.

Who am I supporting for Congress? I dunno, Ed is my frat, but I don't know where he stands on the issues. Let me marinate on that one......
I see the latino brothers and sisters uniting on the immigration issue. They got numbers don't they? They were deep in Los Angeles getting their protest on. I feel them, but I don't know where I stand on the issue. I do know, black folk can't show the solidarity the latinos have shown on this issue to any issue.

Bla`se....Bla`se

Image hosting by Photobucket My mind is in a fog, constantly reminding myself of the things I need to do, should be doing, supposed to have done. Knowing what it is I need to be doing, yet it is undone. What does that say about me as a person? King Procrastinator? Probably. I need to get on my shit soon enough, clock is ticking.
When I close my eyes at the end of the day, my mind hazes me, reminds me of the things I did not accomplish that day.
I remind myself that I normally come through in the clutch though.
I've always hit that three pointer with seconds on the clock when it comes to getting things done. But every game does not have to be a buzzer ender. I should come out playing tight defense from the beginning, starting off the game aggressive from the get go, contesting everything. Instead, I allow my opponent to stay in the game, allowing my opponent to gain confidence and a belief that it may catch me slipping and pull off an upset. I need to have that killer instinct in every facet of my life.
Yea, I'm thinking about finals, thinking about putting everything to memory, thinking about mastering everything, putting it all into the big picture, thinking about applying everything, knowing the exceptions to the rules. Its gonna take a minute to do it, but it can be done. Will be done. Time to start packing for the basement of the library. Clean draws, toothbrush, red bull, actually I think I like that new energy drink Full Throttle better.
Where are my freeking vitamins?

I found out I was accepted for a Summer Study Abroad Program in London, England. The classes will be International Criminal Law, and Private International Law. Now I gotta make sure I get all my financial aid together so the trip goes down, I'd hate to run out of cheddah in the six weeks I will be there. I am excited about the opportunity and in learning of the subject matter. I want to also visit some neighboring countries while there. I do worry about the food there, I am getting mixed messages, some folk are like the food is excellent, others are like the food nasty as hell. I'd hate to have to live off of peanut butter and jelly or noodles my entire summer, I could stay here for such delightful meals.

I hear the AKA's are in town for their convention.....I may have to check out their stepshow, though we all know the AKA's can't step. Yea I said it, what???

Joy of Victory.......Agony of Defeat

My boys at San Diego State came up short in its attempt to knock out Indiana in the NCAA tourney, it was a tough loss. They played hard leading throughout, but inexperience and turnovers allowed Indiana to take them out with a last second shot. I was sitting there praying dude missed the shot. My boy Mo shined. Though basketball in a team sport, I think he opened some eyes with his play. Good job man.
Big ups to Hamilton High School's basketball team winning the Tennessee State Championship going undefeated this season at 39-0! They damn near got cheated in the Championship game by the referees who I swear appeared to be on the take. Hamilton survived double overtime and the refs to pull out the victory. Had Hamilton lost, I think there would have been a riot in the arena because there was waaaaay too much South Memphis in the house. The bad calls were so obvious it was like a game of five on eight. Since my little brother has played at Hamilton for the last three years, I had to chance to watch the boys on the team progress and it was very satisfying to see all of there hard work and efforts pay off. I hope the seniors on that team including my lil bro continue their success as they move on to play college ball.
On the poliical tip, looks like the Justice Department attempted to coach its witnesses in violation of the Code of Professional Responsibility and other ethical standards. How is it that those accused of either being a terrorist or conspiring with a terrorist can be guaranteed a fair trial in this country. Makes you wonder.

Yo Mo....."Represent"

I gotta give my boy Mo, and the rest of the San Diego State basketball team a big shout out for winning their conference and for making it to the NCAA Tournament. I remember when he first dribbled a ball, and the time he got dunked on by one of the Mexicans in my neighborhood. My has he come a long way. You da man now dude! Anyway, do the damn thing. Knock Indiana out the box and move on. I got ya'll going all the wayto the big dance BABY!!!!!

Pop a Pill & Chill

I sense finals approaching, my attitude changes like the seasons when final exams get near. How jacked up is it that I have three 3 hour exams on three straight days. How in the heck am I going to study for that?

I gotta put my two cents in on the efforts by some here in Memphis to recall Mayor W.W. Herenton. I think it is a waste of time to be honest. Herenton has done a pretty good job overall in his capacity as Mayor. The City is in the middle of some financial woes, not all of which are the results of the Mayor's mis-management. Cities throughout the country are suffering, having to make layoffs and cutting city services. Mostly due to a messed up economy. When Federal government gives the states less, the states give the cities less. Memphis has come a long way under the Mayor's leadership, so you if you choose to hate on him, you also have to give him credit for some positive moves made during his term. I am the first to admit, I have questioned some of his moves, but I still think the good outweighs the negative. The recall is simply a chance for some folk to go after the mayor for personal reasons, race too is a factor for some, and some people are simply enjoying the press they are getting as the so-called recall leader.
My solution is if you are unhappy with the Mayor, his terms is ending soon, you will have the opportunity to defeat him in the voting booth. Get a life recallers before you too earn a hoe sit down award.

Why the hell gas prices going back up??? Got damn I need a scooter. I see people bitching at the pump but no one knows what to do. Personally, I am gasing up at Citgo. CITGO is a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of the Venezuelan national oil company that over the winter sold heating oil at discounted rates to low-income communities in the U.S. Hugo Chavez is also president of Venezuela who of late has been calling out Bush and talking shiznitt about him. Gotta like him. If gas prices continue to go up I'm gonna have to become an Ice Cream man. (think Masta P, uhhh)

No, that aint my car.........

I guess that's all for now, back to the books I go.

Trippin In South Dakota

South Dakota....who dat? South Dakota...uh a new car? South Dakota...um dayum this is hard...uh...aint that that street you get the bootleg dvd's?
South Dakota appears to be the home of some conservative fools. South Dakota just passed a bill which bans abortions except when necessary to save a woman's life. Ever heard of Roe v. Wade? Well what sickens me most about this law is the fact that it does not allow for exceptions of incest and rape. What the flip? The law requires doctors who perform abortions to face up to five years in jail. What the flip? That is some bullshit to tell a woman or a child that you must go through with a pregnancy which was caused by such a flipped up event. I am no racist. but white dudes be killing me. You can not tell me that if Bob's little daughter or sister Susie, is raped by Big Ole Tyrone, he would not have his daughter or sister at their family doctor to have an abortion. Lets just be real, for real, you know I aint lying. Image hosting by Photobucket Rep. Roger Hunt, Republican who authored the Bill.
You can't tell me that Ole Roger would make his child have a baby who was the result of a rape. For incest, he might be down too.
I admit, I am pro-choice, but I object to late term abortions. I simply do not believe that another can tell a woman what to do with her body or whether she should be forced to bring an unwanted child into this world. There are too many kids today looking to be adopted or many kids who are brought into this world unwanted. Think about a poor mother of three, already struggling, and because she makes the mistake of getting pregnant, she has to bring another child into this world. Republicans steady cutting food stamp programs so shit just gets worse for the mother, and the child is born into a flipped up situation. Think about it, the current Republicans are cutting subsidies but want don't want to fund the programs that would help care for the unwanted child. I smell bullshit.
And what is the business with Pharmacists refusing to fill birth control prescriptions cause of their personal beliefs. If that aint about some bullshit. That's like a vegan waitress refusing to bring me a juicy steak after she takes my order. I'd say HOE SIT DOWN to her azz but only after she brought me my steak. What is it about folk, fill the freaking prescription, you aint taking the damn pills are you?
This abortion issue is not just about single chicks who can't keep their legs closed, or about dudes who don't wanna wear condoms. In a perfect world, folk would wait to get married before cutting, but as it is today, accidents happen. Further, married folk have to make decisions about unplanned pregnancies. Married couples often have to do the abortion thing, unless the husband loves them barefooted and pregnant. For me, abortion is a personal choice and should remain that way. It's as simple as that. Old folk like that flipper above should get a damn life and leave writing laws to someone else. But this is just the beginning, Mississippi also has a similar law pending.
I have to give one more award, to the Dumbazz governor (Republican Mike Rounds) that signed the bill into law. Image hosting by Photobucket
The Supreme Court appears to be stacked to the right. If so, this law could be the beginning of the end of Roe v. Wade. Women ya'll betta put your boxing gloves on cause its about to be on!

I Got Robbed.......Again

Mock trial competitions are over after lasting damn near three weeks. The competition was challenging, interesting, and a little fun. I must admit I learned a lot about myself, in terms of flaws and strengths.

To start with my original trial partner, a black female had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict, so that left me without a partner before the competitions even started. So who am I paired up with? The last person I would even think of, an older white conservative GOP'er. Someone who last semester I put on blast while discussing the war. We hadn't even spoken since that time. So as soon as I heard he was my partner I was like damn, how in the heck this happen. But after some soul searching I told myself to put aside any personal beefs with him, and be about yo bizness. So, you can imagine our first conversation, I was the consummate team player, compromising and conceding to damn near everything, just so we could get off to a good start. I can only imagine what he was thinking about our match-up. Think about it, a liberal, tad bit militant, Cali kid teamed up with a white older conservative male, Bush lover. Impossible aint it? We were kind of like that Bacardi and Coke commercial.

Well, our first round, we had to go up against my frat and another good guy. We all have pride so, I really did not want to lose against these guys. When it comes to competing I have to admit I hate losing. It could be athletics, board games or whatever, I am gonna do my damnest to keep from losing, I'll damn near cheat a lil kid playing checkers to win. Damn, did I say that? Anyway, we did not win. I have to admit, I kind of dropped the ball that round for letting the time clock run low. We are only allowed two losses in the competition, after that gotta go home.

My partner and I went on to win six competitions in a row, including a rematch against my boys. We were one victory away from going to the championship round, when the robbery occurred. I really felt like we kicked our opponent's azz, really! I can't really point out anything we did not do well to get the win. For real, if we sucked I would admit it, but we boned this dude, but he still got the victory. My score sheet indicated I out-scored him, but in the end, he beat us by two points. Bogus aint it?

I can't front and act like I knew we would get that far, but we really did a pretty decent job, considering how we got teamed up. I actually enjoyed working with my partner. I would have never imagined working with him. I tried my best to put aside our political differences and win as many rounds as we could. Out of 43 teams, to come in 3rd is not bad. I hate we loss the way we did, it would have been kool making it to the championship, but I guess that's just how it goes. Who knows, maybe I gained a new friend out of all of this.

I have to thank all of the folk who volunteered as witnesses for us. You all were great! I owe you all a few lunches. Get at me.
